Make Yourself Useful, You Don't Have To Steal To Survive

I traveled to Onitsha recently and just on the very day I arrived, on my street, a woman had finished preparing rice and stew which she was going to take to the market for sale. She went to take her bath but before she could come out, someone had lifted the entire food.

The woman almost collapsed. This type of theft we hear is now happening in Ekiti and Kwara States and perhaps other states that we are yet to hear of. In Church these days, there are prayer requests for unpaid house rents and school fees with the exact amount being owed clearly stated. Sometimes one wonders if these are really prayer requests or someone is tactfully seeking for someone in the congregation to pity him and get the rent or fees sorted out. We have actually seen that happen, yet the sheer number of these requests shows that indeed the economy is biting.

How do we get out of this mess as quickly as possible? You need to ask yourself this question, again and again. If you are in a line of business that is receiving low patronage, you definitely need to think of going where people are spending money. This is the reason I took time to write on recession proof industries. Like I said in that article, this is not to say that you’d abandon your passion. You need money to fund that passion, and playing in industries like Agriculture gives you that leverage.

This is a time when people fall for all kinds of scam - get rich quick schemes and all worth not. I plead with you to avoid any transaction that promises so much return on investment in an extremely short time. If it’s too good to be true, it most likely is. Instead of looking for Churches where you’d sow all kinds of seed and even drink anointing oil in order to come out of your problems, settle down, with your pen and paper and THINK. Find out why you aren’t making money in your current business. Find out what you can do to turn around the situation. You may need to create a master mind group that would help you come up with robust solutions. I have a master mind alliance. No matter how wonderful an idea is, you need to invest another mind in it. Get another pair of eyes to look at the ideas you have penned down. They would see what you missed. All great men in business have master mind alliances. You need one. If you are the only person thinking about your business, you are already in trouble. Lastly, you need to take action. What’s the use of thinking and brainstorming without any commensurate action? Don’t enter into analysis paralysis. When you have the basic information you need about your next line of action, please act fast.
